Merci, dear Jane. This means so much, from you, a true artist. Yes, there are foxes---a neighbour had a stand-off with one at her back porch last summer. But any animal with any weight would have crashed through those cellar doors. I do hope all this one day will be a book!
Oh dear I am still befuddled by a very sub stack. I wrote an entry and alas it didn't get saved as my fingers like those mysterious creatures poked off to hit something. I once challenged my mother as to why she gave me a boring one syllable name of Joan instead of Phoebe. I had a year of Phoebe longing and it sounds like you and the phoebe nest are back in another year of phoebe longing-to-see. enjoy
Sarah, your painting is growing leaps and bounds. There is a unity of each image that is new. The line versus shape and space work very well! Keep up the great work. Lovely piece this week as it brought me to a feeling of being in the country. A question for your unknown beast. Do you have foxes in the area? We do and it comes each night, making rounds looking for things to eat. Deer here eat bird seed and if they can get at a feeder they can move it so the seed dumps into their mouths. Thanks for such wonderful glimpses of your being. One day I hope you publish them!
I'm filled with nature's creatures and Peter's humor after reading this. The thief is a raccoon. I'll bet breakfast at Chepiche's. I too have a bird that for years has pecked the side mirror of my car, waking me in the morning. My favorite line: "do I perceive a threat when really it's just me." On second thought, the thief could be a hungry squirrel.
The bet is on! But I'm not sure we'll ever know; I doubt a confession is forthcoming from either squirrel or raccoon or pterodactyl.

Oh Sarah, I've seen those greys and now when I see them again I'll look for the subtle differences. Thank you for these.
